Riding for the Irish Development Team in The Kingdom this weekend, Chris McGlinchey has taken the opening stage and first yellow jersey of Kerry Group Rás Mumhan on Friday.

The former international downhill rider turned road ace took victory from a nine-man breakaway.

It raced into Killorglin to fight it out for stage honours and the classification jerseys after forging ahead at the halfway point of the 96km opener.

Among that lead group with McGlinchey were Ali Macaulay (Asea-Wheelworx), Sean Lacey (Team Aquablue), Craig McCauley (Irish Development Team), Daire Feeley (Team iTap) and Mark Dowling (Asea-Wheelworx).

McGlinchey has the yellow jersey, Macaulay the climbers’ jersey and Feeley will wear the green jersey of the points classification leader by virtue of his 2nd place today.
