The second annual Friends First Laragh Classic takes place on Sunday week, September 14th, and will bring the curtain down on the 2014 domestic road racing calendar.

Save for the rescheduled national vets and women’s championships the same weekend in Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath, the race based in Laragh, Co Wicklow, will be the last major one-day outing of the year and looks set to attract a big field.

The race is being promoted once again by St Tiernan's Cycling Club.

There are three events on the programme, with the combined A1-A2 race first off. It will cover four and a half laps of the testing 24km Wicklow circuit for a total race distance of 116km.

The A3 riders will cover three and a half laps for 87 kilometres while the A4s will do two and a half laps.

All three events will have a separate king of the hills prize, with the prime coming inside seven kilometres; a factor that should ensure a fast start.

It’s an undulating circuit which climbs to a maximum elevation of 231 metres and should yield strong winners.

The finish, situated just before the T-junction onto the R763 between Annamoe and Ashford follows a demanding drag which will have the potential to split the fields on the day.

There are prizes for the top six in each race, while there are also prizes for unplaced women and juniors in the A3 race.

Sign-on and the event headquarters are at the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh, which will be open from 9.30am to 10.45am with the race set for an 11am roll out.

Entries for the race are €15 with €1 going to the Laragh Tidy Towns Committee.
