Ireland's Ian Richardson posted a very creditable time which was good enough for 12th place in yesterday’s time trial at World University Championships in Poland.
The UCD CC rider, who is a student at Trinity College in Dublin, posted a time of 36 minutes 6.67 seconds for the 23 kilometre test but will rue not making the top 10.
Richardson, who was sixth in the National TT Championships two weeks ago, rode very well but was one of just a few riders to have taken to the course, featuring a very technical section, in spitting rain and was less than 30 seconds off the top 10.
Petr Vocak of the Czech Republic won the gold medal in a time of 33 minutes 30.98 seconds, just over two and a half minutes faster than Richardson.
Today, Thursday, the Irish road race team of Alistair MacAuley, Danny Bruton, Sean McKenna and Marc Potts are in action in their race.
It has been shortened to just 94 kilometres because thunderstorms are forecast and there is one big climb each time on the six lap course.
