Marc Heaney sprints to victory in Bann Valley Classic; Peter Moore takes A4 spoils

Marc Heaney won the feature race this afternoon at the Bann Valley Classic held in Portglenone, Co Antrim.

The Carn Wheelers rider won in a bunch sprint from Philip Bremner of Lakeland CC and Steve Hutchinson of CCT.

Today's result follows a strong run of form for junior rider Heaney since the start of the season.

He put in a very impressive ride last month in the Spires Grand Prix in Ballyronan, Magherafelt, when he got into the escape with the elites.

He was beaten on that occasion by the in-form Craig Rea of Phoenix CC but bested another very strong man at present, Angus Fyffe of Tomacc who was 3rd.

At the start of the year Heaney was 5th in the Annaclone GP and has taken a number of other top 10 results, including at the McCann Cup in Seskinore last month and in the Danny Boy A3 Race in Derry three weeks ago.

Today's A4 race was won by Fergus Byrne (Bann Valley Cycling Club) with Adrian McPeake (Harps CC) and Noel Brady (Phoenix CC) in second and third respectively.
