Ryan Sherlock (Cycleways) has won the opening stage of the Mullingar Two-Day after he out-sprinted the DID Dunboyne duo of Fiachra O’Mhuire and Timmy O'Regan today, Saturday.

The first three were part of the day’s 11-man breakaway that forged clear of the peloton on the 140km opening stage before fighting it out into the finish in the village of Cricklewood.
Defending champion Sherlock will be the odds-on favourite to defend his title going into tomorrow morning’s time trial over three kilometres followed by a 90-kilometre afternoon trek.
