Darragh Bailey was quickest in the bunch gallop that decided last night’s Tourmakeady Festival race in Co Mayo; the iTap man notching his first win of the season.
His victory was heard earned because on a tough circuit on a difficult night for racing Bailey’s group had to first catch the A4-A3-junior limit group up ahead.
In total, there was a seven minute gap between the first and last riders off, a not insignificant amount.
The race was a 50-kilometre two-lap affair with the finish being back in the town at the end of the second lap.
It only came back together with three kilometres to go, thanks to some strong chasing from the scratch men.
Daire Feeley looked strong in the final but it was his teammate who blasted through to take the win from Stephen Murphy (Cunga CC) and David Brody, also of iTap.
