Aiken emerges best in duel with Seymour to take Cyclocross Champs; McConvey third

 

Roger Aiken has come out on top after a race-long head to head battle with Robin Seymour at the National Cyclocross Championships in Dundalk this afternoon.

Both had gone into the title race at Muirhevnamor Park without having met each other in a race this season and both with 100 per cent records riding their respective home series on each side of the border.

The wise money was on the pair pulling ahead of the rest of the field and so it came to pass, with Aiken pushing the defending champion Seymour hard all the way before managing to gain some daylight on him going onto the last lap today.

However, the master from Team WORC did not give up without a fight. He showed the strength and mettle that has brought him 18 national titles by digging very deep and battling all the way to the line where in the end Aiken triumphed for Banbridge CC by just a couple of lengths.

Conor McConvey, who is preparing for the road season with the new Continental team ‘Synergy Baku’, came home best of the rest to take the bronze
