Having put in a fantastic An Post Rás last month and just returned from Irish team duty in the US, Ian Richardson has shown he is holding his form.
The UCD-FitzCycles.ie rider took a resounding win in the Naas CC Open TT in Co Kildare today, Saturday, on the same roads that will be used for the National Road Championships the week after next.
Richardson clocked a time of 32:52 for the 26km test in Kilcullen, in an average speed of 46.83km per hour.
A noted tester, Richardson was fourth faster in the national championships in Omagh last year behind Ryan Mullen, Eddie Dunbar and Martyn Irvine.
And on the basis of his recent form he may well challenge for a medal against the watch back in Kilcullen on Thursday week.

Today Richardson put 57 seconds into the man who got closest to him, Eoin Whelan of Seven Springs.
And rounding out the podium was Cian Delaney of Stamullen Road Club, who was 12 seconds further back.
Eileen Burns of Ballymena Road Club took the women’s event; recording a time of 37:13 in an average speed of 41.35km.
Burns – perhaps Ireland’s best female TT rider at present – took victory from Lydia Gurley.
The runner-up, riding for Aerocoach, was 29 seconds off Burns, with Aideen Keenan (Scott Orwell) rounding out the podium a further 2:16 back.
William McCormack of St Tiernan’s won the A2 prize – finishing 8th fastest of the full field – in a time of 35:41.
Benny Smyth (Armagh-Down CC) was fastest A3 in 35:44, with Lawrence Clifford of St Tiernan’s taking the A4 prize in a time of 39:13.
