Michael O'Loughlin has shown his class this weekend by winning both the national junior time-trial and road race titles. It's an incredible achievement from the NRPT/Magnet.ie man and will be especially satisfying as he was runner-up in both those events 12 months ago (Photo: DC Images)

Michael O’Loughlin is the new national junior road race champion after soloing to a marvellous victory in Cong, Co. Mayo today.
The NRPT/Magnet.ie man proved a class apart on the challenging 110-kilometre, two-lap course, going clear of the breakaway with around 25 kilometres to go and powering on to the finish.
It’s a superb win for the Carrick man who also won the time-trial title last night, beating his nearest challenger there, Simon Tuomey (Cork Giant), by over a minute.
Runner-up this afternoon was his Irish teammate Darragh O’Mahony (O’Leary’s Stone Kanturk CC) with Sean Yelverton (Mego Racing Team) rounding out the podium for third.
O’Loughlin’s NRPT/Magnet.ie team claimed the team prize courtesy of them being the team with the three highest-placed riders.
The other two were Jake Gray and Patrick Goszczyk.
Meanwhile, Richard Maes was crowned national A3 champion after he won the bunch sprint that decided the outcome.
The Killarney CC man beat Kenneth Conlan of Naas CC with Eoghan Connolly (Strata3/VeloRevolution) getting up there for third.
In the day’s other event, the junior women’s road race, Ciara Doogan emulated the achievement of Michael O’Loughlin by taking the title to go alongside the time-trial crown she won last night.
The Errigal CC rider came in almost four minutes ahead of her nearest challenger, Emily Birchall of NRPT/Magnet.ie with Emer Harrisson (Westport Covey Wheelers CC) taking the bronze medal.
We'll have more on this later...
