Marcus Christie rolls off the start ramp at the Chrono des Nations, but ended the race and his season with a spectacular crash.
Ireland’s Marcus Christie brought his season to a close in disappointing fashion at the Chrono des Nations time trial (1.1) in France yesterday, crashing hard within sight of the line and losing a huge amount of time.
The An Post-Chainreaction man believes he was definitely on for a top 10 finish, tweeting afterwards that he was on the ride of his life until the spill.
But all hopes of bagging a great end of season result went up in smoke when he went head first over the crowd control barriers with 150 metres to go and ended up 20th of 23 riders.
He was seven minutes down on winner Sylvain Chavanel (IAM Cycling).
Christie tried to brake to take a bend in the last couple of hundred metres of the race, but his bike did not stop.
Instead he flew into the crowd control barrier and over the handlebars. While looking dazed after the smash, he managed to get back into his bike a finish the course.
We'll have reaction from Christie later.
Fuck!!!!!! On ride of my life and I fuckin go head over barriers with 500m to go... Brakes didn't save me.. I need a litre bottle on vodka
