Lara Gillespie, the Irish road race champion competing with UAE Development, has continued her ascent in pro cycling today with a brilliant victory in Antwerp Port Epic Ladies (1.1).
The 23-year-old, who has really impressed over the last couple of months since switching from a road to track focus, proved one of the strongest in the race today, over multiple sections of cobbles, to emerged in the select group at the front.
And when sprinting for the chequered flag from that 10-rider group, she was was far the fastest; clinching a brilliant victory she was clearly delight with.
She won that gallop for victory from Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM Racing), Babette van der Wolf (Lifeplus Wahoo), Sanne Cant (Fenix-Deceuninck) and Meike Uiterwijk Winkel (GT Krush Rebellease).
More to come.
Lara Gillespie wins!
