Lara Gillespie romps to first elite Irish TT Champs win in Mayo

Lara Gillespie has won the women's title at the National TT Championships in Co Mayo

Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) has romped to her first senior win at the National Time Trial Championships, promoted by Castlebar Cycling Club in Swinford, Co Mayo, this evening.

The European and world title winner on the track, and former Irish senior road race champion, was out on her own at the end of 30.7km of racing.

She saw off silver medal winner Linda Kelly (Dan Morrissey Pissei), by 1:31, which is a huge margin over this distance, especially in a senior title race.

However, Kelly, a pilot on the tandem on the Irish paracycling team, put in an excellent ride to win silver, beating several pro riders in the process.

Marine Lenehan (Lidl Trek) was 3rd at 1:36, followed by Mia Griffin (Team Picnic Post NL), at 1:37, and the champion of two years ago, Fiona Mangan (MAYENNE MONBANA MY PIE) at 2:55.
