Lara Gillespie (UCD Cycling Club) has won the final round of the Cycling Ireland National Road Series promoted by Banbridge CC today. The 21-year-old, who focusses most of her efforts on track racing, was too strong for the other nine riders left in the front group after 68km of racing.

Gillespie managed to get clear of the group on the run into the finish, with Eve McCrystal (Bellurgan CC) a few seconds back and taking the runner-up spot, a week after claiming gold and silver in the UCI Paracycling World Championships in Canada.

Elle Doherty (UCD Cycling Club) took what was a tight sprint for 3rd place, just edging out team mate Gabriele Glodenyte, after two laps of racing around the undulating Dromore circuit in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains.
