The 51-year-old dominated the Irish cyclocross and MTB XC scenes for decades and represented Ireland in MTB at three OIympic Games. He was out on his own today at the end of the Masters 50-54 race. He saw off a very accomplished Belgian rider, and road Worlds medal winner, in 2nd place.

As well as Seymour's gold medal, Evan Ryan (Team Worc) was 28th in the 40-44 years European title race. Johnny McCabe (Newry Wheelers) was 18th in the 60-64 years aged group.

Riding for his club outfit, Team Worc, Seymour had plenty of time to celebrate his win, punching the air with both hands in delight after almost 45 minutes of racing.
