Caoimhe O'Brien has secured a new contract with World Tour team EF Education-Oatly and so jumps up a notch in the pro cycling game as rode for US Continental team Cynisca Cycling this season.
O'Brien, a 23-year-old dual road and track international, will be competing for the first time at World Tour level in 2026. And that coincides nicely with her efforts to make the Olympic track team for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
From Mullingar, Co Westmeath, she has considerable experience racing abroad, having cut here teeth in Belgium, where she raced in combination with the domestic scene for a number of seasons.
EF Education-Oatly general manager, Esra Tromp, said O'Brien's signing was part of a careful strategy put in place aimed at growing for the future while also securing top results next year.
“As our team moves up to the WorldTour in 2026 and we have a handful of riders with depth and experience to anchor the squad, we’ve signed young riders like Caoimhe to continue our work of shaping the next generation," Tromp said. "We’ve proven that we can successfully develop young riders who are dedicated to growing.
"Caoimhe is exactly who we were looking for: a rider who has already shown she’s capable of progressing but maybe hasn’t had a huge amount of resources available, is excited to put in the work, and help her teammates. We’re excited to support her in her development."
More to come.
