Adam Gilsenan has won ‘Round 3’ of the Cycling Ireland
National Road Series ahead of fellow junior international riders Sam Moloney
and Quillan Donnelly.
Gilsenan (CC Canturino Team)
claimed the win after he came to the line in a three-man move with runner-up Moloney
(Greenmount CA) and Donnelly (Usher Irish Road Club).
Those three were just seconds ahead of what remained of the peloton, numbering about 20 riders, after racing 3½ laps of the circuit in Dunshaughlin for a total race distance of 82km.
“It
was a nice race, a bit harder than the last round,” Gilsenan said comparing
today’s event with the Knockaderry, Co Limerick, round last month which he also
won.
“No
breaks were really going away. Every time up the climb I pushed hard but it was
just too hard to keep anything away,” he said, adding while the climb was “hard
enough” the breeze was a big factor in making the race hard.
However,
though the field stayed largely intact through the contest, with about 2km to
go it was Donnelly who took the initiative and attacked, with Moloney and
Gilsenan went with him.
