George Peden won the Champion of Champions 25 Mile Time Trial promoted by Ards Cycling Club on Sunday morning, breaking Chris Boardman’s event record.
Former national elite champion Eileen Burns (Ballymena
Road Club) won the women’s race, in a time of 57:43.
She takes that victory fresh from winning the gold at the Ulster 10 Mile TT Championships last weekend.

Peden (Prologue RT) has been in great form against the
watch since racing re-commenced after lock-down, winning the Ulster 10 Mile TT
title last weekend.
He is clearly holding his form and recorded a time of 49:29
this morning on the Portaferry out and back course on the Ards Peninsula in Co
Down.
That bettered the previous record of 49:36 that dates
back to 1993 and was set by former Tour de France stage winner and yellow
jersey, former world hour record holder and track Olympic champion Chris
Boardman.
When Boardman set the course record in 1993 he was riding for Gan-Lemond and would go on to win the world TT title the following year as well as the prologue TT at the Tour de France and three stages of Critérium du Dauphiné.
In the men's event this morning Marcus Christie (Performance SBR) was 2nd in a time of 50:13. Bryan McCrystal, the Ironman athlete now back doing some racing, was 3rd in the colours of Bellurgan in a time of 51:22.
In the women's event, Ballymena Road Club took a 1-2 with Laura Campbell 2nd to winner Burns in a time of 1:02:50.
All times are provisional at the time of writing.
