Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) has taken a stunning stage win at Tour of the Basque Country after going on the attack and then blowing away the opposition.
The Irish rider, who was claiming his first victory of the season, went on the attack in the breakaway for the second day in succession. However, though yesterday's escape effort ultimately came to nothing, today's aggression on stage 5 into Gernika-Lumo served up a very different outcome.
Healy struck out solo from the breakaway with over 50km to go and had the legs to take his effort all the way to the line, where he had the best part of two minutes in hand after 172km of racing.
