Galway Bay Cycling Club has been forced to cancel its Galway Classic race and the Great Gravel Adventure, both planned for this weekend, due to lack of entries.

Due to the cancelation of the Galway Classic, the only road race taking place on the island of Ireland this Sunday, June 7th, is the Wilson Nesbitt Glendale GP.

It is being promoted in Co Antrim by Glendale CC and you can get more information and enter by following this link.

The Sean Lynch Memorial is being held in Co Louth this Saturday, promoted by Drogheda Wheelers, and you can enter and get more details by following this link.

But in Galway there is obvious disappointment that the Galway Classic - the only race in the country with gravel sectors - has had to be cancelled.

"Due to low entries, we at Galway Bay CC unfortunately have to cancel both the Great Gravel Adventure on June 6th and the Galway Classic on June 7th," the club said.

"Neither event is sustainable. We would like to genuinely thank all those who entered and supported the events. And we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this might cause you, and hope you find an enjoyable alternative for this weekend.

"Refunds will be sent in the coming days - no need to contact us, it will be made automatically to you."
