Global bike brand Giant is studying a number of sites in Ireland and seeking partners to launch more of its branded shops here following the opening of its first store in the Republic, located in Dublin.

The store came about after Irish businessman Darragh O’Dwyer teamed up with the Giant company in a bid to capitalise on the growing popularity of cycling in Ireland at present.

O’Dwyer told stickybottle the store has been trading very well in its first weeks, and that he was looking forward to it becoming one of the best known outlets in the country.

“We’re looking forward to representing the Giant brand in both Dublin and Ireland,” he said.

“We feel with the new store’s appeal it really promises a whole new bicycle retail experience that combines a great product offering with our very enthusiastic and experienced team.”

He added because of the store’s easy to reach location - just off the M50 - for people in Dublin and surrounding counties, it had had a constant stream of visitors from the cycling community and those looking to get involved in the sport.

“The focus is obviously on making the store look and feel as professional as possible and we feel we’ve done that. But of course, we want to place just as much emphasis on offering people a hassle free shopping environment where the staff are knowledgeable and approachable.”

Managing director of Giant UK, Ian Beasant said the company had worked hard to understand cyclists’ needs to make sure they were satisfied with their new bikes and kit.

“We feel a Giant purchase doesn’t end with just collecting a bike. It’s about being a part of the cycling community and having great cycling experiences. We believe Dublin is definitely ready for a brand store.”

He added the company had already begun talks with other independent partners with a view to opening stores at more locations across the country.

The new store is located in the EP Mooney Retail Centre. It offers the full range of Giant bikes and gear and also offers servicing.
