Sam Bennett wins stage 6 of Paris-Nice today with a fantastic late kick that saw him dominate the final gallop to the finish line.

Sam Bennett has sprinted for another stage victory at Paris-Nice, his second of the race and his fourth win of the season.

The Carrick-on-Suir sprinter had put in a brilliant sprint on stage 3 to win from a big bunch and today he was victorious from a smaller group.

While boxed in a little at the end of today’s sixth stage, he showed fantastic power and movement in the bunch to nail the victory after 176.5km from Peynier to Brignoles.

After just over four hours in the saddle today Bennett snatched the victory from Arnaud Demare; the Frenchman riding for Groupama-FDJ no match for the Irish cyclist’s late surge.

Demare looked to have it but Bennett came from behind like a train, overhauling him to take a spectacular win.

Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) was 3rd from John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo), Bryan Coquard (Vital Concept-B&B Hotel) and Anthony Turgis (Direct Energie).

At the finish the bunch was greatly reduced as a number of short sharp climbs and crashes split the field to pieces.

More to come.
