Aqua Blue Sport director Tim Barry may live a glamorous life on the road, but it's pressure and hard graft along the way, as this video reveals.

The team has produced this sweet short bringing us behind the senses with the man from Cork.

A top domestic rider in his day, his racing career only ended in recent years.

He rode for Ireland at home and abroad on many occasions and one the vast majority of the big races in Ireland.

 

 

He teamed up with businessman Rick Delaney to sponsor the Irish domestic team Aqua Blue in 2012.

That relationship has now moved into the bigger and bolder pro game.

Aqua Blue Sport ProContinental team is in its first year. And with Delaney as owner and Barry as one of the sports directors they've hit the ground running.

They've been on the attack constantly; never afraid to take the fight to all-comers.

And the week before last a large number of podium finishes converted into the team's first win.

Larry Warbasse did the damage, taking a mountain stage no less at the Tour de Suisse.

Barry is behind the wheel of the team car pulling the strings and coaching the riders along.

But there's also a huge volume of work off the bike to keep the team moving and successful.

“The key point is directing the team on the road and just giving the riders as much information as you can,” he says.

Demands of the job

“You’ve got the race radio giving information from the organisers, and then I can also talk to the riders on the road using the radio.

“It’s about putting the information together and putting them in a position to try and get the best result they can.

“It’s very challenging but also very enjoyable; a little bit stressful at times.

“A lot of people involved in the sport, be they on the bike, off the bike or in the backroom staff – we obviously thrive on that stress.”
