Irish cycling
agent Jamie Barlow has launched a new cycling agency with British heavyweight
boxer Anthony Joshua.

The agency founded by Barlow, 258 Protégé, is effectively the new cycling arm of the 258MGT management company owned by Anthony Joshua. And that new cycling entity has already signed riders who look set for big careers at WorldTour level.

Those riders include: Finn Fisher Black (UAE Team Emirates) Sarah Gigante (Team Movistar) Niamh Fisher Black (SD Worx), Oscar Nilsson Julien (British Cycling Academy) Leo Hayter (Team DSM Devo) and Nicholas Dlamini (Team Qhubeka NextHash).

Barlow, who is from Ardfinnan, Co Tipperary, has been working in pro cycling for Irish cycling agent Andrew McQuaid’s London-based Trinity agency. McQuaid also owns the UCI Continental team Trinity Racing. However, Barlow has now left Trinity to set up his own business with Anthony Joshua.

Barlow said 258 Protégé will
work across all aspects of cycling
“including talent
representation, contract negotiation, sponsor negotiations and corporate events”.

The Irishman believed Joshua’s 258MGT had already become an industry leader in managing world class athletes across sport. And he was now looking forward to replicating that success with the new cycling business.

“We are in
a unique position to disrupt the market and challenge the current shortfalls of
the commercial elements of the sport and
utilise the full support of the team 258MGT has built around AJ across
legal, financial, PR and branding industry leaders,” Barlow said.

“Our modus
operandi will be to focus on elite talent with a quality over
quantity hands-on approach. Having identified and worked with
some of the best young talent the past eight years, WorldTour, Women’s World Tour, Pro Continental and development
teams trust our opinion on talent. Outside of the cycling bubble we are the
best connected commercial agency barring none."

Joshua said the
new 258 Protégé cycling
agency was an exciting step for
his business and he and everyone who works for him “will back Jamie 100 per cent”.

“Fortunately, we are now in a position to offer (our) team to elite level cyclists in order to maximize their own career potential on and off the bike,” he said.
