Finn Crockett, who won bronze in the Commonwealth Games road race riding for Scotland, has switched his allegiance from Great Britain to Ireland.

The move by the 24-year-old means he will be eligible to ride the Irish national championships this year, and into the future, and would also be able to represent Ireland in the Europeans or Worlds, if he gains selection.

Crockett is no stranger to the Irish cycling scene as he has ridden both Rás Tailteann and Rás Mumhan in recent seasons. He won a stage and the overall in Rás Mumhan last year and claimed a stage victory, and 12th overall, in last year's Rás Tailteann.

Given his palmares in Britain, Ireland and Europe he may force his way into the reckoning for national team selection in the years ahead.

Currently riding for Dutch Continental team VolkerWessels Cycling, he previously raced in the colours of St Piran, which is the strongest Continental team at present on the British scene.

In Britain he has won some of the biggest one-day races, including the Rutland-Melton CICLE Classic and the Beaumont Trophy.

In 2022 he sprinted to bronze in the road race at the Commonwealth Games in England, denying Northern Ireland's Matt Teggart the final step on the podium. Aaron Gate (New Zealand) took gold on the day from Daryl Impey (South Africa).

We'll have more shortly on Crockett's switch from riding as GB rider to Ireland.
