Darren Rafferty may have won the junior men's race at the National Road Championships in Coolbeg, Rathnew, Co Wicklow, today but lots of riders put in great performances.
Somhairle Owens Fisher of Team Caldwell Cycles took it up very early with a solo attack before the top riders caught him, having broken clear of the peloton.

Rafferty (Team 31 Jollycycles U19) went on to take the gold from Dean Harvey (VC Glendale), with Jamie Meehan (VC Glendale) claiming the bronze. Last year’s champion, Ronan O’Connor (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club) was 4th from team mate Ruairi Byrne.
David Shine (O’Leary Stone Kanturk0 took 6th with early breakaway man Somhairle Owens Fisher (Team Caldwell Cycles) placing 7th and Samuel Moloney (Greenmount CA) finishing in 8th place.
