Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grendiers) has already had a glittering career despite his youth, winning the MTB Olympic title, cyclocross world title and the Alpe d'Huez stage at last year's Tour de France. However, his victory yesterday at Strade Bianche was the biggest of his road racing career.
The former world junior road race and TT champion, still just 23-years-old, made his move out of the peloton with just over 50km remaining. He dropped those he was with one by one before taking a solo win.
Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) placed 2nd, at the head of chasing group that threatened to catch Pidcock for most of the last 20km, with Tiesj Benoot (Jumbo Visma) just behind in 3rd.
