Primož Roglič has made up for the disappointment of last year, when he lost the yellow jersey at Paris-Nice on the last stage. Back then he crashed and then fell short in his chase back on, with Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) taking overall victory instead.

This time around Schachmann was among the 95 riders who started the race last Sunday but withdrew before it finished yesterday. Flu and related conditions swept through the peloton while crashes claimed other riders.

On yesterday's final stage Roglič (Jumbo Visma) came under attack from his nearest rival for the overall, Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco). However, when Yates rode away on the Col d'Èze climb just before the finish in Nice, Roglič had help from team mate Wout van Aert.

They pegged back Yates to just nine seconds on the finish line, ensuring the British rider did not take the yellow jersey from Roglič. However, Yates had the consolation of a brilliant solo stage win and 2nd in the final standings and would likely have won overall but for Van Aert's contribution to the chase.
