It's fantastic to see a world class rider and coach so committed to fresh thinking and new approaches to training, especially based around a very basic set-up.
Here's a training video that we think will inspire a lot of you. The cameras bring us inside a gym session with MTB legend Nino Schurter.
The 29-year-old Swiss rider has devised a routine based around improving his balance and related strength.
He also tries as best he can to mimic the demands on the body when, for example, having to ride flat out up a short climb followed by whipping down a treacherous fast descent with obstacles to avoid.
He also focuses on coordination and regeneration, fashioning his own pieces of equipment to train with.
Nino has won silver and bronze on the mountain bike at the last two Olympics. He's currently the world champion and has won the title four times.
He's also won the World Cup overall four times and won the European Games in Baku last year; those achievements just a tiny sample of his glittering career to date.
And the training regime in the video below is, without fear of exaggeration, just as spectacular as his palmares.
