Eddie Dunbar with the 'Back Baller' device which is said to knead your muscles, flushing out lactic acid to aid recovery and prevent injury.

Now in the off season after a great campaign in the US and Europe, Eddie Dunbar is like other talented pro riders in using his down time to improve.

He’ll be pounding the roads around his native Banteer of course and will also take in some warm weather training camps abroad with his team Axeon Hagens Berman.

In the clip below he has teamed up with Irish fitness industry inventor Noel Marshall whose ‘Back Baller’ device aims to take foam rolling to the next level.

With two double mounted rollers, the device is used to massage of knead your main muscles to improve relaxation and recovery; like deep tissue massages.

The device also works on ailments such as back pain, hence the name Back Baller.

However, it is designed as a tool for performance athletes in aiding the body after hard efforts.

Marshall and his partner on the project, world renowned physical therapist Ger Hartman, say the device flushes out lactic acid by kneading tiny knots from your muscles through the deep tissue massage made possible by the rollers and users' motion over them.

Marshall and Hartman have put together a 20 minute Back Baller session to work the back, calves, glutes, groin, hamstrings, IT band, quads and shins.

Dunbar, a stage winner the Rás this year and the U23 national TT champion, joins Marshall in the clip below to demonstrate some of the exercises the device is used for.
