Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles) has done one of the fastest 10 mile TT times ever recorded on Irish riders, recording a 17:58 in the latest round of the Ernie Magwood Series on the Frosses course in Ballymena, Co Antrim.
The course is the same one where then junior rider Conor Murphy, now competing with Decathlon CMA CGM Development, recorded a time of 17:42 last year. That equalled the Irish senior record set by Ryan Mullen, now with World Tour outfit NSN Cycling Team, back in 2014.
Former Irish road and track international, Marcus Christie, has also posted some seriously fast times on the Frosses course, including a 17:52 a few years ago.
Murphy, Mullen and Christie appear to be the only three riders who have gone faster than Inglis for the 10 mile distance on Irish roads, though we are open to correction on that.
Inglis posted the fast time tonight, Thursday, to win the event, though there were also some other riders in the field who went seriously quick.
They included George Peden, new national elite and U23 road race champion, Seth Dunwoody, and Hazel Smyth, who broke her own Masters national record by a couple of seconds.
Some of the notable times this evening were:
- Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles): 17:58
- George Peden (Performance PB): 18:09
- Seth Dunwoody (Bahrain Victorious Devo): 18:11
- Lindsay Watson (Caldwell Powerhouse): 18:48
- Hazel Smyth (Kinning Cycles): 21:52
We will bring you a full result when we have it and it should be noted that all of the times here are provisional.
The time keepers at the Ernie Magwood Series are among the most experienced in the country, but they have stressed that these times are provisional.
It was notable to see Dunwoody out riding this 1o mile TT. We have not really seen him in TT action, outside of the National Road Championships and the stage races he rides with TTs.
However, he is branching out a little next week, when he rides the U23 European Track Championships in Germany. And his TT ride this evening was good preparation for that.
But there is no question that tonight belonged to Inglis; the 32-year-old really putting in a seriously strong effort. We'll have more from him shortly.
