Not sure good quality carbon fibre frames would snap this easy or look like this inside; a bit scary.

The video below and the set of photos before it should be enough to put you off cheap carbon fibre frames for life.

The clip was recorded in the workshop of the BikeWorx store in Celbridge, Co Kildare, today, Tuesday.

The frame’s owner was out training on Sunday and without warning found his bike in speed wobble mode coming off a climb as he was doing around 50kmph.

He first heard a loud bang – the bike snapping – and was then sent all over the road.

And while he hit the deck, he said he was certain the bike had broken while he was still upright.

The seat tube had snapped as had the rear stays in three places.

BikeWorx have ordered him a new frame and will transfer his parts onto it.

The shop’s advice?

“Cheap isn’t always the best option. Buy well known brands! This guy is lucky to be alive.”

You can see a bad crack on the seat tube a couple of inches down from where it meets the top tube.

The frame, clearly badly cracked, moves to such an extent the rear stays can be brought together to touch each other.

One fairly modest pull and the frame falls apart, without much resistance even allowing for the fact it’s already cracked.

Have a look at the clip
