Ireland’s medal-winning Madison partnership of Felix English and Mark Downey are back in action for round three of the UCI Track World Cup in Los Angeles this weekend.
The pair were in superb form in round two last weekend when they took silver in Cali, Colombia and will travel to this weekend’s competition brimming with confidence.
It’s a small team in the US this weekend with Eoin Mullen and Anna Turvey the others making up the Irish team.
The former goes in the men’s sprint on Saturday while Felix English goes in the 15k Scratch Race the same day.
English is still the world’s number one scratch race rider according to the most recent rankings published by the UCI so he will be aiming to at least preserve that status and maybe poke out a result.
Turvey is a bronze medallist from the European Championships last year and will be eyeing another big performance, though she is up against a quality field and will have her work cut out.,
Last weekend was an historic one for Irish cycling and as well as taking three medals Ireland finished sixth in the medal standings ahead of Great Britain, the USA and Canada.
One man on the hunt for more medals is Mark Downey who won gold in the points race last weekend.
He’s in action again on Sunday while he’ll pair up with English for the Madison.
Also taking to the boards that day is Mullen in the keirin.
