Matthew Walls (APS Pro Cycling by Team Cadence Cyclery) has wasted no time getting stuck in on the domestic scene since moving up to the U23 ranks this season. Last year's Qanta Capital Junior Tour of Ireland winner, he claimed another victory at the Mondello Series in Co Kildare last night, Tuesday.

In what was the first round of the 2026 series, now promoted by a Dublin Ravens Road Club, Walls (18) started with the scratch group and eventually went on to put in a big solo effort to win.

With 1:45 between the each group, Walls decided to go hard from the start, hoping to continually split it and get a group that would work together. His efforts contributed to quite a chaotic pattern of racing.

However, he was eventually part of a solid breakaway, that also included Liam Crowley (Pinergy Orwell Wheelers), Javan Nulty (Unattached Leinster), Hugh Óg Mulhearne (AS Villemur Cyclisme) and James McKenny (VeloRevolution-Speed Queen), among others.

Walls attacked solo with three laps to go, and though Nulty was the only rider to get on to him, Walls attacked again and spent the next three laps solo, on what was a windy night on the motor racing course.

He went on to win, with a very large gap, before McKenny - riding well this year with his new team - was best of the rest in 2nd. There was then a closer fight fir 3rd place, with Conroy just getting the better of Crowley, before Nulty took 5th and Mulhearne rounded out the top six.
