Mathieu van der Poel was one of those who came down in a high speed crash at the Tour of Flanders, though he has battled on in the race.

The three-time Flanders winner, and defending champion, came down in the group crash with a number of his Alpecin-Deceuninck team mates, some of whom were able to aid him get back on to the peloton when they got going again.

The crash occurred with just under 130km remaining in the race and has Ireland's Ryan Mullen (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) was pushing the pace on the front of the bunch in pursuit of the breakaway almost four minutes up the road.

And among the breakaway was Ireland's Rory Townsend, riding his first Tour of Flanders and lining out today for his Q36.5 team.
