Caolan Daly (Armagh City Cyclists) made the best of the C3 group's handicap at the Armagh Criterium, scooping up the primes available on the night on the way to a strong win.

He was best in an event first run to mark the Giro d'Italia's visit to the North, and into the Republic, back in 2014 and has now been going strong for more than a decade.

A small group of C3 riders was being chased from the start by the larged C2 bunch, with a three-minute distance to make up by the C2s if they wanted to get to the front of the race and compete for victory.

However, as the C3 group gradually fell apat as the riders raced around the Marlacoo Lake circuit in Co Armagh, promoted by Orchard CC, Daly and Gavin (Clarke Banbridge CC) emerged from that C3 wreckage as a strong duo.

They cooperated with each other, making the best of the fact the C2 chase, when it eventually came, was very belated. And so Daly and Clare hung on; Daly taking it from Clarke in a two-up spint.

Best of the rest was Jamie Clarke (North Down CC), followed by Luke McMullan (Ballymena RC), Colum Mackle (Armagh City Cyclists) and Jonathan Coen (Dromore CC).
