Il Lombardia 2014
Having crashed in Liège-Bastogne-Liège earlier in the season when he looked sure of victory, Dan Martin made no mistake when it came to taking his chance in Il Lombardai in 2014. A quality select group pulled clear on the final climb, with Martin latching onto the back of it. He stayed away from the front as the likes of Philippe Gilbert, Alejandro Valverde, Tim Wellens, Fabio Aru, Joaquim Rodriguez and others marked each other. Just inside the final kilometre Martin made his winning attack from the back of the group and powered home to take a really memorable win; one he could hardly believe himself.
Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2013
Martin took it up in the last couple of kilometres, of 257.5km in total, to chase down Jaoquim Rodriguez when he attacked very late in the race. The Irish rider had the head and legs to ride a textbook finish; catching his Spanish rival and then jumping hard once he realised Rodriguez was in trouble. They were chased down all the way by a small group led home by Alejandro Valverde but Martin had too much for them both on the day to take the biggest and most impressive win of his career to date.
Tour 2018: Mur de Bretagne, stage 6
The third of Dan Martin's three Grand Tour stage wins and the last race he has won, this kick up the Mur de Bretagne at the end of stage 6 on Tour de France 2018 is as good as you'll see. Dan Martin attacked the finish from the bottom of the climb and sprinted up the ascent full gas for the final kilometre. The best riders in the world, most of them peaking for this race, were in the group behind but despite Martin going so early on such a hard climb, none could get near him. This was quality of the highest order; so good in fact we've included the highlights below and a video of the final kilometre in full.
2018 Critérium du Dauphiné, stage 5
When Dan Martin attacked the front group, battling for the yellow jersey, with over 3km to go on stage 5 of Critérium du Dauphiné 2018 it looked like he had played his cards a little bit too early. Once Geraint Thomas and Romain Bardet set off after him, the Irishman's time out front looked to be coming to an end. Thomas went so hard he dropped Bardet, but he couldn't catch Martin on the incline to the finish; the Irish rider taking a brilliant win.
Stage 3, Volta a Catalunya 2016
Look at the company he takes on, head-on, in this uphill finish and whom he leaves for dust. The best of them at the front are right onto him when he attacks but Dan Martin just keeps pulling away. Even Alberto Contador is a long way back on the line in 2nd place. It may not be among the biggest wins he's taken, but this finish is pure killer by Martin; the devastation in his wake, clearly visible on the final corner, is a sure sign of the quality of the engine at work.
