We all know Team Sky has been hugely successful, but Global Cycling Network believes the British WorldTour squad has changed cycling forever.

The team has the biggest budget and highest number of staff of any pro outfit.

And with its lateral thinking and absolutely anal attention to detail it has continued to improve relentlessly.

The clip below is really informative and essentially profiles the team with particular emphasis on those areas where most advantage has been gained for the riders.

GCN believes the ideas that emerged in British Cycling and Team Sky have not just created a superb team but have changed the sport and indeed other sports.

For example, by choosing to ride at the same pace up climbs rather than react when others attack, Team Sky has introduced a counter intuitive change to tactics and one without which Bradley Wiggins would likely not have won the Tour de France in 2012.

GCN believes Team Sky’s approach to breaking down everything it does in pursuit of tiny gains has, erm, “changed the world”.

When it comes to tech, the team has gone as far as to manufacture stems with 1 millimetre differences in size, rather than the conventional 10 millimetre size changes.

It’s a small detail but when repeated across the bikes and all tech you can imagine the impact on comfort, power and speed.
