Some three months after taking over from Ireland’s Pat McQuaid as UCI president, Brian Cookson has stated in an end of year interview that restoring the credibility of the sport remains top of his agenda as the New Year approaches.
The former president of British Cycling, Cookson said another chief goal for him in the year ahead is the development of women’s cycling and of women in key decision making roles across cycling.
He has also suggested the sport on the whole has not been as good as others in maximising technology and television as a means of getting stronger and shoring up its financial base.
Cookson also says in the video above that the UCI is finalising its talks with other stakeholders, including WADA, on the establishment of an independent commission to investigate doping in the sport. He believes an announcement on the personnel who will make up that commission is imminent.
