Everesting: An Irish rider's journey into the 'death zone' | video doc

Diarmuid Kavanagh broke the Irish Everesting record earlier this month. Fellow riders Cian Keogh and Fintan Ryan were there to spur him on and make this film of Kavanagh before, during and after his ride; a fantastic piece of work by all involved

Diarmuid Kavanagh broke the Irish Everesting record two weeks ago in Co Wicklow, with his epic effort captured in the video below.

At 6'8" Kavanagh is far bigger than most riders who attempt Everesting. And while he was 81kg on the morning of the effort he was down to 74kg straight after his ride. This was despite drinking about 16 bottles on the day.

He took on the record on a 3.8km section of Slieve Mann; riding that section 31 times for a total elevation of 8,850 metres and recording a time of 10hrs 42mins.

That installed him at the top of the Irish all-time list. And though Ronan McLaughlin broke it the next day - with the 5th fastest time in the world - Kavanagh still had a period as the Irish record holder.

He was aided and abetted on the day by family and friends as well as fellow riders Cian Keogh, Fintan Ryan and Luke Kearney. Keogh and Ryan have produced the video below.

Kavanagh was also riding in aid of Tomás Mulqueen, the popular Cork rider who is battling cancer and requires funds for his treatment and associated long period away from home. He has raised almost €3,000, well in excess of his €1,000 target, which will be added to the bigger fund for Tomás.

This was a great effort by Kavanagh and it's a fantastic video by Keogh and Ryan; well done lads.
