Seth Dunwoody (Cannibal B Victorious) has said he very narrowly missed out on his first international win of the year on Saturday after a tactical final on the opening stage of Penn Ar Bed-Pays d’Iroise (2.1), where he won two of the three stages and the overall last year.

However, with a split stage to unfold today - a morning TT and road race stage in the afternoon - he was hoping to take more results, including a win of things unfold in his favour.

"It was a super close finish and I kinda just got pipped on the line," he told stickybottle of finishing 2nd to Jules Simon (CIC U Nantes Atlantique U19) in the bunch sprint at the end of yesterday's 101km stage.

"It was a cagey finish, with a breakaway lingering off the front until the last 2k. And I just tried to use my experience a bit, being a second year junior now, to just hold off and wait and be patient and there was a bit of hope it would come back.

"So I just waited and waited and it was tailwind finish. I opened up with about 250 metres to go. But it was still a bit too soon because I was eventually caught - it must have been less than 10 meters to the line, by the eventual winner.

"I'll not be too sore about it but we've a 71/2k time trial in the morning (Sunday) which I'm really, really looking forward to giving it a good lash, even maybe for the win.

"I had a bit of a disappointing time trial at this last year so I kinda just want prove to myself that last year was a bit a mistake, rather than rather than not being good at the time trials.

"I won the (afternoon) road stage last year and it's a super aggressive course so hopefully it will suit."
