Conor Dunne may have been Irish champion and ridden at the highest level of the sport, including the Worlds, La Vuelta and the Giro, but he met his match in Donegal.
The former pro turned Global Cycling Network presenter took to the start line of the Donegal Ultra 555km race with his characteristic good cheer.
And while he rode well, up some of the hardest climbs in the country, he began to hit problems just inside the final 200km.
A bit of sleep in his support car combined with food and a determination not to abandoned meant he fought on. However, while it looked like he was over the last of the climbs and set to finish, his body was having none of it.
You can watch how he got on in the video below. The race was won by Conor's former team mate at An Post-Chainreaction and the Everesting world record holder Ronan McLaughlin in a time of 17 hours 19 minutes.
