Clancy in new look Novo Nordisk kit for 11th season at ProConti level

Stephen Clancy in the new Novo Nordisk team kit. The Limerickman is now Ireland's longest serving pro rider

Stephen Clancy, Ireland's longest serving professional cyclist, has been unveiled in his new look Novo Nordisk kit for the 2023 season. It will be the Limerick man's 11th season at ProContinental level.

The new Novo Nordisk kit for this year is quite different to last year's look. However, the navy blue that has formed the basis of the kit since 2018 remains. This time the US-based team has added splashes of lime green, the cuffs of the shots and across the right shoulder.

This, for us, is a big improvement on last year's jersey, which included yellow and grey panels on mainly blue kit. And this year's shade of navy blue is also a more definitive statement, resulting in an attractive racing kit for 2023.

Clancy first signed for the team at the start of the 2013 season; a time when he was already climbing the pecking order on the Irish scene only to be diagnosed to diabetes, very unexpectedly. He was soon signed by the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team as he quickly got to grips with diabetes and stepped up into the pro ranks.

He had raced in Ireland with the Dan Morrissey-Speedy Spokes team and was Cycling Ireland's ‘Rider of the Year’ back in 2011.

Now aged 30 years, one of Clancy's highlights last year was his spending the day in the breakaway at Tour of Oman; up the road for almost 140km before his group was caught and the stage win went to Mark Cavendish in a bunch sprint.

Clancy's team, previous called Team Type 1, began racing as a Continental team in 2008, moving up to ProContinental level for the 2011 season. Its mission is to "raise awareness about what is possible with diabetes".
