A woman has been charged in relation to the fatal road traffic crash that claimed the life of UCD Cycling Club rider, John Walsh, just over a year ago.

Mr Walsh was out on his bike in north Dublin, not far from his family home, when the fatal crash, involving a motorist, occurred.

Marcella Duffy, aged 61 years, of Clareville Lodge, Streamstown Lane, Malahide, Co Dublin, appeared before the courts charged in relation to Mr Walsh’s death.

She was charged with dangerous driving causing his death on February 18th, 2024, on Malahide Road, Kinsealy. The accused appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday, Friday, morning.

Ms Duffy was remanded on bail until March 21st next and must decide on a plea before that next scheduled court appearance.

Mr Walsh, who died on the day of the crash, was a married father of three who lived with his family in Malahide. He worked as a solicitor for AIB and was well known in the road racing community.

He was injured in a crash with a driver at about 9.30am on Sunday, February 18th, last year. He was taken from the crash scene to Beaumont Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead there later that day.

He is survived by his wife, Olivia, three sons – Andrew, Rowan, and Morgan – and his parents, Norman and Anne, brothers Niall and Louis and sister Helen.
