The stage 4 highlights from the Tour de Yorkshire, below, feature some terrific footage of Eddie Dunbar attacking off the front of the 10-man group he was in.

It forged clear as the field blow to pieces. Dunbar and those he was with couldn't catch lone leader Stephane Rossetto (Cofidis).

But that didn't stop Eddie Dunbar doing his very best to get clear on his own in pursuit of the Frenchman.

This clip shows the 21-year-old Aqua Blue Sport rider putting in two digs that really tested those he was with.

Take a close look at the video footage of Dunbar's second attack. Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing) is second man in the group as it reacts to the Irishman's surge.

And Van Avermaet looks like he is under real pressure due to the hammer being put down by Dunbar.

The BMC Racing leader had several team mates in the group. They rode on the front to make sure race leader Magnus Cort Nielsen (Astana) was distanced.

They did so in the hope Van Avermaet would win the race overall; which is exactly what happened.

While Dunbar couldn't get away from them; he tried his heart out.  And very clearly these were big efforts that seasoned WorldTour men were having trouble coping with.

Great effort all day by Eddie Dunbar

At the finish, Dunbar also put in a decent enough sprint. He'd been 5th from a five-man breakaway at the Volta Limburg last month. And he expressed some disappointment with that at the time.

But yesterday his sprinting was better. And of the 10 men sprinting for the runner-up spot on the stage, he was 3rd.

Only eventual race winner Van Avermaet and Ian Bibby of JLT Condor got the better of him in the dash to the line into Leeds.

This was a very good ride indeed for Eddie Dunbar; not only in the strength he showed but also in riding without any fear.
