Gardaí are looking for a hit and run driver who hit three cyclists, injuring them, on Wednesday evening in Co Cork

Three cyclists have been injured after a driver hit them in Co Cork and then fled the scene. While none of the injured cyclists suffered life threatening injuries, they required medical treatment.

When the driver failed to remain at the scene the alarm was raised and efforts to locate the motorist began immediately and were continuing late on Wednesday night.

Garda Headquarters, Dublin, confirmed the hit and run had occurred just after 8pm in the Midleton are, with the criminal investigation into the crash ongoing.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, following report of a road traffic collision involving a car and three bicycles, that occurred on the R627 near Westpark, Midleton, Co Cork, this evening, Wednesday, May 14th,” a statement said.

“The collision occurred at approximately 8.05pm. The car failed to remain at the scene. The three cyclists received medical assessment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

“The road is currently closed with local diversions in place. Investigations are ongoing. No further information is available at this time.”
