Jumbo Visma suspends Hessmann (22) after positive dope test result

Michel Hessmann of Jumbo Visma has been suspended by the team after what it said was a positive dope test result

Michel Hessmann (Jumbo Visma), the German rider who kept Ireland's Archie Ryan off the Tour de l'Avenir podium last year, has been suspended by his World Tour team after it said he had returned a positive result in an anti-doping test.

Hessmann, who was 3rd in Tour de l'Avenir riding for German last year, rode for Jumbo Visma Development for two seasons and is currently in his second season with the World Tour squad.

Jumbo Visma issued a statement confirming it had been informed of the test result and that the rider was suspended by it, pending the remainder of the anti doping process.

"Today we have been informed of a positive anti-doping test result for our rider Michel Hessmann," it said. "It concerned an out-of-competition control on 14 June in Germany.

"The detected product is a diuretic medicine. We await the results of further investigation. Michel has been suspended by the team until further notice."

The team did not state what the specific substance at the certain of the process is.
