Irish cycling self-starter tells BBC how Covid-19 helped him break through | Video

Shea Gribbon is now really making a name for himself customising footwear and designing sportswear and tells the BBC how being furloughed gave him his first full-time crack at branching out on his own

Well known in Irish cycling circles, Shea Gribbon hit the headlines last year with his cycling shoe repairs and designs; Vuelta rider Harry Tanfield getting TV exposure for his cycling shoes, which were customised by Gribbon.

And now the self-starting art graduate has done it again with this nice feature, above, by the BBC. He tells the British broadcaster how being furloughed during the Covid-19 pandemic gave him a clear run at customising and designing footwear and apparel.

Since branching out on his own last year - as The Shoe Dr - Gribbon has been in demand; proving popular in Irish and pro cycling but also working way beyond cycling to customise everything from football boots to trainers.

He's even customised a pair of cycling shoes to match their owner's unique car - as you'll see in the first photo below.

Gribbon's brand was given a boost last year when Bradley Wiggins posted photos of himself on his social media channels wearing a pair of socks by The Shoe Dr.

It's a feel-good Irish cycling story from the pandemic and we wish Shea continued success with his growing new venture.
