With many businesses in Ireland up in arms over rising insurance costs, the cycling sector is not immune and one facility is being forced to close for a period.
Bike Park Ireland said it had been working hard to stay
open in the face of the rapidly rising cost of insurance.
But it has confirmed it must close this weekend and while
it was hopeful of resolving the problem it was far from certain of that.
The off-road facility at Knockshigowna, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, offers trails with uplifts as well as a practice pump track, enduro climb trail, bike hire a café and event camping facilities.
But because of the problems it is
experiencing with rising insurance costs, it announced late on Thursday night
it was being forced to close on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It issued a statement confirming the closure; apologising and asking regular visitors to continue with their support.
“Bike Park Ireland should be celebrating its fifth birthday this week but instead we must announce (we) must close this weekend, May 17th, 18th and 19th.

“It comes with an enormous amount of disappointment and frustration that we must close all of our trails until sometime next week, effective immediately.
“This is due to
the national insurance crisis that is affecting most, if not all,
activity-based businesses this year. Unfortunately we are no exception.
“We have been working day and night to find a solution
and we will continue to do so until we have it.
“But as it stands, and through no fault of our own, we
are the latest victims of the ridiculous insurance crisis.
“We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience caused and
we just hope that you have patience with us and continue to support us when we
reopen, which we hope will be very soon.
“All bookings made for this weekend will be fully
refunded, and fingers crossed we are back to normal again next week.”
It added it was announcing the closure because “we want
all of our valued customers and friends to know so they can avoid a wasted
journey”.
