Egan Bernal Tour de Suisse TT near miss: The yellow jersey very nearly became the third Team Ineos leader to crash in two weeks.
Egan Bernal was very lucky to save a near miss in the Tour de Suisse TT and avoid joining team mates Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas on the sidelines.
Froome crashed during his Dauphiné TT recon ride the week before last, breaking multiple bones and ending his season.
Thomas crashed out of the Tour de Suisse on stage 4 but is recovering well and training again.
Bernal almost joined them on the crash list on a left-hander
during yesterday’s stage 8 test; some 19.2km in Goms.
In the end he put in a very strong ride and held onto his
yellow jersey. But his mishap must have put the heart across Team Ineos
management.
“In a left-hand corner I almost fell and I was a little bit
scared because I took the corner really fast,” he said.
“It was a risk but I think that I took a couple of
seconds in the corner,” he added of cutting it fine.
“Tomorrow I think we should just try to keep the jersey,
not do anything crazy. There’s one day to go.
“If Bahrain want to win the race they will try something
but we just need to keep hold of it.”
