Just weeks after a man was arrested by gardaí after a recording emerged of a driver hitting a cyclist from behind in Dublin, footage of a second self-recorded collision has emerged. This time a driver has again hit a cyclist from behind, laughing as the man falls and the motorist drives away.
Gardaí have confirmed the latest incident occurred in Dundalk, Co Louth, at the weekend. The video recorded from inside the vehicle has emerged today, Tuesday, on social media.
In the clip, as the car approaches the cyclist from behind, a man is heard to say:
"See him on the bike, look, look," before the left side of the vehicle hits the cyclist - who looks like a middle aged man - and sends him crashing to the ground.
Laughter can then be heard on the recording before a voice says: "LOL, LOL".
The clip is just 14 seconds long and it is not clear if the driver eventually stopped and went back to the cyclist's aid. However, during the few seconds of footage after the cyclist is hit, the car continues to be driven in the same direction, away from the crashed cyclist.
Garda Headquarters in Dublin have confirmed the incident occurred on Castletown Rd, Dundalk, at about 3pm on Sunday. They added they were investigating what they described as a collision involving a driver in a car and a man on a bicycle.
Gardaí also confirmed the cyclist underwent treatment at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co Louth. Thankfully he had not suffered any life-threatening injuries.
